Files with a .zip extension are compressed files. They must be uncompressed before they can be used. Compression helps by storing a number of computer files in a single file, and makes the file, in some case, up to 90 percent smaller than the original file(s). This format is extensively used for making files available for downloading from an on-line source.

The zip files on our website are compressed with either PKZIP, WinZIP, WinRar. In order to use these files, you will need an uncompression (unzip) program. There are a number of uncompression programs available from various shareware sites on the Internet. Searching for one of the programs previouly listed can aid you in that search.

PLEASE NOTE: The Delaware Public Archives does not promote the use of any of these programs. The information provided is only a courtesy to our patrons.
